Overcast Moonlight (commissioned by Hohner Porter) is a piece of music that draws inspiration from varied and seemingly unrelated areas that are brought together to explore issues of intimacy and distance. The music for this piece started its life as a series of electronic improvisations over the summer of 2020. These improvisations were modeled after the melodies and harmonic material of Simon Diaz's Tonada de Luna Llena. I have always been fascinated by this tune, a work song that seems to beg the moon for solace in the face of heartbreak.
